Congratulations to JON ZIMMER JR for his 6th place finish in the 2025 Monster Truck Racing Open Championship! After three years just outside of the Top Ten, Jon finally broke above that ceiling thanks to a strong performance on the highly-ranked Monster Jam Arena Central series. This is his 5th consecutive 10+ win season and 2nd consecutive 20+ win season. His career-best 11631 points were 3rd best in the sport this year.
The season started on a great note for Zimmer as he won the Outlaw Nationals event in Wheatland, Missouri last October. He then toured with his father on the highly-competitive Monster Jam Arena Central Series and stunned the sport by becoming the first independent driver in decades to win the Series Championship!
But the season was a real roller coaster, with lots of highs and lows. Dayton went well with 1 win and 3 finals at the Nut House, but he earned points in only 1 of the next 4 races. But he rebounded with a final round appearance in 9 of the next 12 races with wins in Nashville, Milwaukee, Newark (2), and Brooklyn (2). Then Worcester came with 2 first round loses and only 2 heat wins the whole weekend. Followed by two first round loses in Little Rock. The 5-race weekend in Rosemont netted his 9th win of the season but followed by 4 consecutive semi-final round loses, and then 10 non-points events. Back up to a high in Green Bay and Hartford in late March: 2 wins and 3 runner-up finishes. After another win in Hampton, Virginia, we go back down to the lows with 3 first-round loses in Southaven, Mississippi, before one more win in Moline to close out the tour.
Despite the rocky nature of the racing season, Zimmer’s ranking was consistently inside the Top Ten. In fact, he was never lower than 9th the entire season. Unlike his corporate-owned competition, Zimmer also ran a full summer schedule and picked up some important wins there. He won with Throwdown in Crystal, Michigan for a modest 156 points, and also with Throwdown at the wildly-oversized Fowlerville, Michigan event that netted Zimmer 329 points! He had a runner-up and semi-final finish in the two-night Miami, Oklahoma classic. And biggest of all, he defended his racing championship at the most-prestigious independent of the year: the MTX Back To School Bash at The Dirt Track in Charlotte!
After having settled into 8th place in the rankings for most of summer, Zimmer got added to the late-season Monster Jam Arena tour and added valuable points. Coming off an impressive semi-final finish at the Monster Jam World Finals in Salt Lake City, he won twice in Savannah and three times in Rosemont to close out the season.
Everyone has been saying that Jon Zimmer Jr is the future of the sport and it’s easy to see why. In addition to the two-wheel and freestyle skills that helped win him the Arena Central championship, he has proven to be a great racer with wins on a variety of tracks and against tough competition. He is rising fast and I don’t think we’ve seen his terminal velocity just yet.
