===== WEEKEND RECAP FOR AUGUST 15th – 21st, 2024 =====

Still a bit behind on updates but catching up. There have been 369 events since July! And we had a few more big ones last weekend including the insane finish in Charlotte. The Back-to-School Bash awarded 333 points to the winner which is the most of any non-Monster Jam event. Jon Zimmer Jr took the win as Dalton Widner lost power and failed to clear the over-under jump; but Zimmer suffered a freak rear steer failure and barrel rolled in the shutdown area! He can take consolation in knowing that he not only won this huge event but also moved back into the Top Ten.

Krysten Anderson and Kayla Blood dominated racing in San Francisco, meeting in the finals every race, with Anderson winning twice. The two gained 9 and 8 spots in the rankings respectively, which were the two biggest moves of the weekend.

Jon Zimmer Sr quickly fixed Uproar after his own damaged suffered in Charlotte before traveling up to Mount Morris where he won the All Star drag race over Virginia Giant. Speaking of Virginia, it was in Manassas that David Rife put the legendary Awesome Kong name into victory circle for the first time this season. He’s been in the finals in 6 of his 7 races.

Rookie Daniel Calderon won his first career event in Green River, Wyoming on a muddy track. Aaron Basl won the first race on Harper’s Monster Truck Mania tour which kicked off its tour in Albuquerque. Preston Collins meanwhile swept both events on the Monster Truck Wars tour and now leads the sport with 31 racing wins this season.

8/17 Sat Aft: AARON BASL [T-Rex] defeated Justin Murphy [Outlaw]

The Monster Truck Wars promotion started a new Monster Truck Mania tour in Columbus, Nebraska with some new faces behind familiar names. Jeff Murphy piloted his usual Fatal Attraction, but brother Justin took the wheel of the series favorite Outlaw truck while Aaron Basl returned with T-Rex. Basl takes the win to kick off the Mania tour.

===== CONCORD, NC =====

8/17 Sat Ngt: JON ZIMMER JR [Terminal Velocity] defeated Dalton Widner [Jurassic Attack]

What a wild and memorable finish to this year’s Cook Out Back to School Bash in Charlotte! Fast qualifier Jon Zimmer Jr and Dalton Widner met in the finals for the 2nd time in 2 weeks and put everything on the line to try and win the largest independent event of the season. Both drivers were running fast laps, but Zimmer got out of shape the 2nd time over the bus stack near the starting line and lost time trying to stay inbounds. Widner had a chance to capitalize on that mistake, but coming out of Turn 4 towards the over-under jump his engine cut out causing his Jurassic Attack truck to coast up the over jump and faceplant into the bus at the start of the down-ramp. The violent and unexpected crash was only the beginning however, as Zimmer continued his lap at full throttle, not realizing that Widner was eliminated. Zimmer has a clean shot to the finish, but his own mechanical malfunction caused the rear steering to kick out right as he reached the finish line jump, sending the truck into a violent barrel roll in the shutdown area, ripping out the entire rear axle in the process! Fans were stunned at the carnage but relieved to see that both drivers were unharmed.

This was far and away the biggest event of the weekend with a 1.106 rating (season average is 0.718) and the 333 points award to the winner is the most of any non-Monster Jam event this season.

===== ESTEVAN, SK =====

8/16 Fri Ngt: We do not have results from this event

8/17 Sat Ngt: We do not have results from this event

Sadly we do not have any info from Estevan Speedway. It looks like Dale Eve won one of the events but we need much more information to award points.

===== GREEN RIVER, WY =====

8/17 Sat Aft: BYRON CADIGAN [Carolina Crusher] defeated Mike Rowley [Bearly Tame]

8/17 Sat Ngt: PAUL CRAIGHEAD [Rampage] defeated Byron Cadigan [Carolina Crusher]

Lots of breakage plaques the trucks in Green River, resulting in only one head-to-head race each night. Since four trucks were scheduled to race, though, and prevent from doing so only due to breakage, the results for this one still count. Byron Cardigan had the best luck and scored a win and runner-up finish giving him 3 final round appearances in a row.

===== GREENSBURG, PA =====

8/20 Tue Ngt: RYAN HOLMAN [Amped Up] defeated Josh Holman [Godzilla]

The JM Motorsports Productions crew went to the Westmoreland County Fair for a midweek race where Ryan Holman got the better of Josh on the Chicago-Style course. Ryan is 6-2 against Josh this season in head-to-head racing.

===== LAS CRUCES, NM =====

8/17 Sat Aft: PRESTON COLLINS [Outlaw] defeated Kaley Engstrom [Shark Attack]

8/17 Sat Ngt: PRESTON COLLINS [Outlaw] defeated Kaley Engstrom [Shark Attack]

===== LISTOWEL, ON =====

8/17 Sat Aft: MIKE WORSLEY [Outfoxed] defeated Kevin Lubsen [Bucking Bronco]

Mike Worsley grabbed his 2nd win of the season on the All Out Tour. We’ve yet to have back-to-back winners on tour even with only four drivers as the parity has been very strong this summer.

===== MANASSAS, VA =====

8/15 Thu Ngt: DAVID RIFE [Awesome Kong] defeated Paul Strong [Quad Chaos]

8/16 Fri Ngt: FAITH PHREED [The Judge] defeated David Rife [Awesome Kong]

David Rife had Awesome Kong running strong in Manassas with the MTRL and picked up the win on Thursday before losing by inches on Friday. Kong has had a lot of timed racing events, but has advanced to the finals in 6 of his 7 racing events. Manassas was Rife’s first win of the season.

===== MCMINNVILLE, OR =====

8/17 Sat Aft: JACOB GALLIE [Wicked Strong] defeated Stanley Hernandez [Lone Wolf]

8/17 Sat Ngt: DANIEL CALDERON [Scattered] defeated Jacob Gallie [Wicked Strong]

The Monster Truck Nitro Tour had a few new faces in Oregon this weekend as Jacob Gallie in Wicked Strong and Daniel Calderon in Scattered joined some Triple B Motorsports drivers. Gallie was the winner on Saturday afternoon which was his first win of the season. A rain shower during the day made for muddy conditions in the night but it was rookie driver Daniel Calderon—competing in only his 3rd bracket—who found the most speed on the slippery track to score his first career win.

===== MOUNT MORRIS, MI =====

8/20 Tue Ngt: JON ZIMMER SR [Uproar] defeated Cliff Vowell [Virginia Giant]

The All Stars only had one race this weekend in Mount Morris but it provided some excellent side-by-side action. Jon Zimmer Sr got his Uproar truck fixed after busting the front driveshaft in Charlotte over the weekend and outraced the Virginia Giant for the win. This was the first time Zimmer and Vowell had raced head-to-head this season.

Nick Jones beat out Bill Payne on Friday night to win for the 6th time on the Malicious Tour this season. Jones also now leads Payne 7-6 in head-to-head races (based on the heats we have available) although Payne still leads the tour by a long margin with 23 racing wins overall.

===== SACRAMENTO, CA =====

8/16 Fri Ngt: KRYSTEN ANDERSON [Grave Digger] defeated Kayla Blood [Sparkle Smash]

8/17 Sat Ngt: KRYSTEN ANDERSON [Grave Digger] defeated Kayla Blood [Sparkle Smash]

8/18 Sun Aft: KAYLA BLOOD [Sparkle Smash] defeated Krysten Anderson [Grave Digger]

Our two biggest winners from the weekend were Krysten Anderson and Kayla Blood who dominated racing in San Francisco and gain 9 and 8 spots in the standings, respectively. For Kayla Blood, she also was coming off the 11 straight timed-racing events and score her 2nd win of the season.

8/17 Sat Aft: ROB POUTRE [Bounty Hunter] defeated Kory Kinal [Scarlet Bandit]

8/17 Sat Ngt: ROB POUTRE [Bounty Hunter] defeated Kory Kinal [Scarlet Bandit]

Rob Poutre was back behind the wheel of Bounty Hunter in Tulsa and took two wins on the big Chicago-style course over second-generation driver Kory Kinal. That gives Poutre 21 wins this season and moved him up 3 spots into 17th place, his highest ranking since June. He is also only the 7th driver to reach 20 wins this season.

===== WATERLOO, IL =====

8/17 Sat Ngt: ROGER GAUGER [Bigfoot] defeated Dalton VanSkyock [Stomper]

Roger Gauger joins the rankings in 56th after picking up another win on the Full Throttle Tour. The last three events on tour have had Gauger in Bigfoot racing against Dalton VanSkyock in Stomper. This was the rubber match after splitting the first two races.

===== WELLINGBOROUGH, ENGLAND =====

Tony Dixon in Swamp Thing once again came out on top of the UK Monster Truck Nationals at Santa Pod Raceway. He beat out a surprisingly fast Grim Reaper driver by CJ Murty. The Grim Reaper team has always been smooth on the tight and complicated out-and-back course, but found extra speed this year to place second. Patrik Tenbrock in the legendary Lambo took third. Unfortunately none of it counted for Open Championship points since there was no bracket. Rather, trucks ran two qualifying rounds with the fastest trucks paired up in the finals
