Stars and Stats - February 2019

Stars and Stats is a new addition to the MTROC website where you can find highlights from the past month's racing action. Here, we'll recap which drivers performed the best over the past month and highlight any particularly newsworthy happenings from the monster truck racing world.


Adam Anderson was the best monster truck racer in the month of February. He scored 1,756 points in 6 races including 2 wins and 5 final-round appearances. Here are the Top 10 racers in February:

Now let’s take a look at some other driver stats. You’ll see Tristan England’s name coming up a lot as he and Armando Castro battled it out all month on the Triple Threat East series. England is also the only driver to have won at least 1 race during each weekend of February. Team Bigfoot had fewer events than some teams but were consistently in the final rounds. And brothers Mikeal Christensen and Paul Jensen had quite a sibling rivalry going this month, meeting each other in the finals 7 times!

The Driver Performance Rating (DPR) represents how often a driver advances to the final round. A DPR of 100 means the driver competed in every final round. A DPR of 50 means the driver never advanced into the semi-finals. There were 6 drivers in February (with at least 2 events) who competed in all of their final rounds (for reported events).

RIVALRIES

In February, no two drivers contested more races against each other than Tristan England and Armando Castro. They squared off 12 times and each driver won 6 rounds, however Armando was the victor in 4 of the 5 final rounds against Tristan.


Blake Granger and Krysten Anderson met 8 times with Blake getting the win in 6 of those encounters, including all 3 final round bouts.


Mikeal Christensen and Paul Jensen met 8 times, as well, with each brother picking up 4 wins. Seven (7) of those races occurred in the final round with Paul taking 4 event wins. Paul also had the only non-final round win between the two when he knocked off Mikeal in the first round in Corbin. However, Mikeal had the last laugh by returning as fast loser and eventually beating Paul in the final round.


EVENT STATISTICS

Finally, here is a look at some general event statistics from February. There were 141 total events of which 110 were scored and 17 (12%) were not reported. A big thanks to everyone who has been turning in reports and helping us make every race count!

30 of 50 States had monster truck racing this month. The most-visited states were:

  • 23 in Texas

  • 13 in Mississippi

  • 9 in Pennsylvania

  • 7 in both California and Illinois

  • 6 in Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina

There were 23 promoters in action this month. The most-active promoters were:

  • Monster Jam = 66 events (47%) including 39 Triple Threats, 18 Stadiums, and 9 Arenas

  • Hot Wheels Live = 12 events (9%)

  • CFP No Limits! = 12 events (9%)

  • Traxxas Monster Truck Tour = 10 events (7%)

  • Main Attraction Promotions = 7 events (5%)


A full two-thirds of all racing events took place on a Saturday:

  • 24 – Friday Night (17%)

  • 38 – Saturday Afternoon (27%)

  • 56 – Saturday Night (40%)

  • 19 – Sunday Afternoon (14%)

  • 2 – Sunday Night (2%)


The average field size for racing brackets was 7.3 trucks.
